Compare a used HON bowfront L desk and a used walnut L-shaped executive desk on storage, finish, and workspace. See which used executive desk with drawers fits your office.
Quick answer
Choose the used HON bowfront L desk if you want a light-wood finish and a U-shaped executive footprint; choose the used walnut L-shaped desk if you need a woodgrain L-shaped desk with built-in drawers at a lower catalog price.
Shape and footprint: U-shaped versus L-shaped
The HON is described as a U-shaped executive desk, which wraps workspace around the sitter on three sides. The walnut desk is L-shaped, with two connected runs. Both give more surface than a straight desk, but the U-shape asks for more open floor area and can feel enclosing in a small office. The L-shape leaves one side open, so it usually fits a corner or a wall run more easily.
Storage: built-in drawers versus built-in storage
The walnut desk explicitly lists built-in storage drawers. The HON listing describes built-in storage but does not specify drawer count or configuration. If drawer count matters for filing and supplies, ask for the exact drawer layout before you buy the HON; the walnut desk gives you a clearer starting point for a used executive desk with drawers.
Finish and visual weight: light wood versus walnut
The HON's light-wood finish reads lighter and can make a large desk feel less heavy in a bright room. The walnut desk's woodgrain finish is darker and more traditional, which suits executive offices but can dominate a small or dimly lit space. Neither finish is inherently better; match it to your flooring, wall color, and the amount of natural light.
Trade-offs to weigh before you choose
- Workspace shape: The HON's U-shaped footprint gives wrap-around surface but needs more floor area; the walnut L-shape gives two connected runs with one open side. Measure your room's open floor area before deciding between bowfront vs L shaped desk layouts.
- Drawer certainty: The walnut desk lists built-in storage drawers; the HON listing does not specify drawer count or layout. If drawer count is non-negotiable, confirm the HON's configuration or default to the walnut desk.
- Finish and room light: Light wood can keep a large desk from feeling heavy in bright rooms; walnut woodgrain adds traditional weight and suits executive settings. Compare finish samples or photos against your flooring and wall color before buying.
- Catalog price: The HON is listed at USD 350.00 (compared with USD 699.99); the walnut desk is listed at USD 300.00 (compared with USD 599.99). Price differences are modest; let shape, storage, and finish drive the decision first.
